30 day lolita challenge post 3

10 things I hate about lolita.

1. The limit of sizing for brands, a lot of the stuff I really like I can't buy because it won't fit. My broad shoulders and big boobs just aren't fitting in there
:(
2. Prices, although I understand them better than most- a lot of AP stuff is limited and I can see hand work in it. It is also SO expensive to print your own prints. OMG- yea.

3. The low toleration of newbies, I know it's annoying to answer the same questions that you learned forever ago, but hey- we were all newbs at one point.

4. USA lolitas seem to have giant sticks up their butt about mixing the fashion with other stuff. I understand there is the style lolita, but I can still wear the dress without HAVING it be lolita. Calm down, it's a dress.

5. Shoes with snaps and buckles, the buckles work just fine- the snaps don't. I didn't pay $60 for my strap to pop off every 5 minutes. I hate how this is becoming more and more popular.

6. Cheap accessories with big price tags. It's plastic AP, PLASTIC.....why $35 for a plastic ring?

7. Replicas that actually have the name of the brand printed on the replica. Why hello Ebay, look at this Baby the Star Shine Bright replica with the name emblazoned across the bottom. Totally shameful.

8. Crazy over the top shit.

9. I'm a slob- slobs and expensive clothes just don't mix.

10. The lack of boobs in lolita, I have boobs....why no one else have boobs? Seriously- not cleavage--boobs-- just adult body shapes would be nice.

30 day lolita challenge post 2

Day 2 – 10 things you love in lolita.

1. I love that lolita has so many genres and that I don't have to choose to be sweet all the time or gothic all the time. I can jump between my favorite styles and be different every time I dress up.

2. My lolita friends! They are so awesome!

3. Lolita lets me express myself, I can make my own dresses and accessories and just go all out. I can be crafty and stay away from scrap booking :p

4. Angelic Pretty

5. Alice and the Pirates

6. Mini hats- this includes tricorns, boater hats, sailor hats, marching band hats, top hats...hell! any kind of hat is better in mini form.

7. Giant Hair is quite normal, I love that my hair can be like 2 feet tall and 2 feet wide. (I usually look happier with giant hair then this person)

8. Prints! I am in love with prints on fabric. I love finding prints and using prints and anticipating new prints from brands.

9. I can feel absolutely beautiful without the least bit of cleavage. I feel beautiful because I think so, and I'm not judging it based on how many men offer to buy me a drink or look at my ass.

10. It's different, what can I say- it's the hipster in me. I love that lolita is a different style than the norm and anyone else into it automatically has a bond with you.

Day 1 – 10 things about your lolita bubble.

I'm not sure what exactly this means, but hey- let's give it a go shall we? My lolita bubble is basically in my head all the time. I barely get to wear it on a weekly basis. I'm an older lolita (as in I'm older than 25) so my day job gets in the way of wearing my over the top sweet co-ord (damn social standards). But my brain thinks about lolita all the time. To me, lolita is a fashion- and one that makes me feel frilly and pretty without feeling overly girly. Normally ruffles and lace and pink would make someone feel pretty girly, but maybe because it is such an extreme style it doesn't make me feel as girly as when I'm wearing an pink cardigan and heels. I feel more at home in bloomers than in slacks. Lolita also makes me feel ageless, like my brain. I'm not young or old, I just am. And I am quite beautiful too, lolita is the best pick me up ever and makes me feel put together in a way that matching earrings never could.

Larger Sizes

So most of us know that lolita tends to be made for the Japanese- which means smaller bone structured people. Those of us with broad shoulders, large arms, long legs or large chests can forget about fitting into quite a few brands. This sucks, a lot, especially when you find your dream dress in a brand you know will most likely never fit you (Mary Magdalene cough cough). So...I thought people might appreciate a list of places you can buy blouses and other things custom made for you.

Fan Plus Friend- They can custom make almost anything in their inventory- it just costs a little more.

In the Starlight- This is an Etsy store where they custom make bloomers, petticoats and blouses. Nice prices too.

Qutieland- this site offers a lot of replicas and original dresses that can be tailor made for an additional cost.

Sweet Rococo- This site you can design your own dress or skirt and then have it made for you, they are usually pretty far out for orders though. It just depends on how long you are willing to wait.

Anna House- This site used to "bespoke" items which meant they would tailor make them. I don't see it advertised but if you contact them they may still make things custom sized.

I know there are more, but I hope this opens up some shopping for people. If you know of any more shops please leave them in the comments.

Dream Design Contest

So I wanted to do something really cool to thank everyone for all the support, and that includes "liking" the Facebook page. So I decided to have a crazy contest that no other same person would want to do, but I wanted to do because for one lucky person it will be the most awesome "thank you" gift ever. So I announced the Dream Design Contest...details below.

Want to try putting on the designer's shoes? Well here's your chance. Announcing the Dream design contest! Where you get to design your own dream lolita dress or skirt.
Here's how it will work. You will brain storm and come up with an amazing dress or skirt. It will be fabulous! Then get it down on paper or on your computer or however you want to represent your piece- you can color it, leave it black and white whatever you want. You will then send that image to poison.sugar@yahoo.com as an attachment and I will add it to the photo album of entries. You will then call forth all your friends and lackeys to vote for your awesome image and you yourself will also vote. Voters will need to like the page to vote, but they don't have to stick around if they don't want to. Whoever has the most votes by Midnight on August 31st will win their outfit- custom made for them. For real! Get to brainstorming!!

Rules: please follow these or I will return your image to be adjusted.

1. Use solid colors only. I can't make a print that doesn't exist and I (unfortunately) can't give out my expensive existing prints for free. You can use as many solid colors as you want, just please no prints.

2. Your outfit has to be make-able. Meaning no hovering parts, suspended stuff or all over just weird craziness that I have no idea how to recreate. This is not "lets make Mikki crazy" contest.

3. This is a skirt or dress contest- not a full coordinate. So while I encourage you to add pieces to your drawing if you think it will help the design, be aware I won't be making your blouse, cardigan, sock garters, bracelets and rings. I will make a head bow or headdress though to match your outfit.

4. You can vote for more than one person by liking the picture.

5. The winning design will be made for the winner to keep, but Poison Sugar has to right to distribute images of the design and finished product with credit to the winning designer. It won't be mass produced for sale. This basically means that Poison Sugar can advertise the winner :)

6. Specifying a certain type of fabric does not mean that it will be used in construction. You can definitely suggest fabric that you think will work well for your design if you want.

7. Once a winner is decided, I will need their measurements and the finished product will be done no later than 3 weeks from when I receive measurements- not from when the winner is decided.

8. Your design can be on a person or not, it doesn't matter :)

Did I forget something? Ask away below and I will clarify best I can.

Now get drawing!!

P.S. When you send your image to poison.sugar@yahoo.com please label it however you want- if your dress has a title or whatever, so I know what to post.
